Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to permanently improve the appearance of your smile, though the process can be daunting for some patients. While it may sound invasive, getting veneers is actually a relatively simple process. Through careful attention to detail and customization, we can help you get the smile you have always wanted. Keep reading to learn all about the process of getting Boynton Beach veneers.

The Initial Consultation

If you have decided that you would like to begin the process of getting porcelain veneers, we will need to set up an initial consultation. This is where we will discuss with you at length your goals for your smile. We will also give you a thorough examination just to make sure that your smile is healthy enough to support veneers. Some patients may require additional treatments before getting veneers, such as gum grafting or even teeth whitening. We will map out how many teeth will get veneers, what they will look like, and how we can blend them in with your natural teeth. Many patients choose to get many or all of their teeth done, but they can choose to only get partial veneers.

We will need to ensure that you have a good history of oral hygiene and we will take x-rays to make sure your facial structure is sound. We will also take impressions of your mouth and teeth so that we can begin the process of creating your custom veneers. The veneers take about two weeks to be created, so you will need to come back to have them placed. The molds are sent to a dental laboratory so your Boynton Beach veneers can begin to come to fruition.

Your next visit will be for preparation. This is typically the part that causes anxiety in some patients, though it is a relatively simple process. The surface of the tooth will be shaved down to create more space for the new veneer. Our team will use local anesthetic to numb the area so that you will only feel a slight pressure. A drill is used to gently shave off the enamel until it is in the desired shape for your Boynton Beach veneers. We typically remove about half of a millimeter from your tooth’s enamel. We will provide you with a set of false teeth to help protect your smile until you can come back for your next visit. Your teeth need to be covered because they are extremely vulnerable in their new state, so you don’t want to potentially damage them.

The custom veneers will take about two weeks to create. Once they are finished, you can come back in to have them permanently placed on your smile. The Boynton Beach veneers will be placed snugly on the surface of the tooth and polished to look perfect. Our team will take the time to adjust the fit or address any concerns so that you can be 100% satisfied with your new smile. An ultraviolet light is used to harden the cement and secure the veneer in place.

After Treatment

We may recommend a follow-up appointment just to see how you are adjusting to your new smile. Veneers are a big investment, so we want to make sure that you are totally happy with the look and feel of your new teeth. We recommend that you avoid eating hard foods for a day or two after treatment just because your teeth may feel sensitive, but it is perfectly safe to eat after getting your veneers. While veneers are strong, we do recommend that you avoid eating hard foods with them. Just like our natural teeth, veneers can be damaged from foods like popcorn kernels or ice cubes. Don’t assume that your veneers are invincible, be sure to eat foods with care. Cut up hard or crunch foods to make them easier to chew, and avoid anything that could seriously harm your teeth.
